The Philoptochos Society is an official organization of the Greek Orthodox Church in America whose mission is "to promote charitable, benevolent and philanthropic outreach, to preserve the sanctity of life and family, and to perpetuate and to promote our Orthodox faith and traditions." Philoptochos means "friend of the poor."
The Philoptochos Society is never considered apart from the local parish. The local chapter is required to "promote participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community, with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and the Parish Council."
By virtue of his ordination, and through assignment by the Hierarch, the Parish Priest is always the Spiritual Adviser of his parish's Philoptochos chapter.
All women of our parish are invited to become members. Three annual pastry sales help fund the chapter's philanthropic activities Members usually meet once per month after Sunday coffee hour.
